Frederick August Holst

Frederick Holst grew up in the Knierim area in Calhoun County. After graduating from Manson High School he entered the Army and was assigned to Company B, 7th Cavalry. His tour in Vietnam started in July 1970 and he was based in Long Khanh Province. His death came on October 9, 1970 when a weapon being cleaned by another soldier discharged, killing Private First Class Holst. He was buried in Greenfield Cemetery in Knierim.
