Biography:
Keokuk native Garrel Lee Teatsworth was killed on April 20, 1967. He had been serving in Vietnam for six months at the time of his death. SSGT Teatsworth was participating in Operation Prairie IV when the M-42 Duster tank he was aboard was hit by enemy fire. Three other soldiers were killed in the incident. The Army Staff Sergeant’s body was not recovered by American forces for six days. He was 36 years old at the time of his death. His body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Keokuk National Cemetery.
