Biography:
Gary Dean Frasher of Worthington in Dubuque County graduated from Western Dubuque High School in the class of 1966. He joined the Army in May 1967. Frasher specialized in rotary wing aviation and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant as a pilot. He was sent to Southeast Asia in March 1970 and was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division. On May 8, 1970 while piloting a UH-1H Huey Helicopter on an emergency resupply mission, 1LT Frasher’s chopper was shot down by enemy fire. Two other soldiers were killed in the crash. The 21-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Saint Paul Cemetery in Worthington.
