Gary Lee Abrahamson

Gary Lee Abrahamson of rural Monroe County graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, IA in the class of 1969 before joining the Army. He married a Cedar Rapids native in February 1970 and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. PFC Abrahamson arrived in Vietnam on June 29, 1970 and was killed within three months. His unit was ambushed on the night of September 20, 1970 while on a security patrol. A memorial was held at First Christian Church and he was buried at Oak View Cemetery, both in Albia. The 19-year-old Abrahamson was posthumously promoted to Corporal.
