Biography:
Gary Lee Brookhart was a lifelong resident of Muscatine. He graduated from Muscatine Senior High School in the class of 1967. He was employed at the Home Oil Company until he was drafted in May 1968. Brookhart trained as an infantryman and he started his tour in South Vietnam in November 1968. He was serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th (Wolf Hounds) Division. PFC Brookhart was killed during combat southeast of the Dau Tieng Base in the Tay Ninh, Province, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old at the time of his death. His body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Muscatine.
