Biography:
George Douglas Dell was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from the Air Academy High School in the class of 1965. Dell attended Colorado University for a year and a half before enlisting into the Army in February 1967. His parents moved to Cedar Rapids after he joined the service. That September SP5 Dell was sent to Vietnam as a Huey repairman with the 1st Aviation Brigade. On June 25, 1968 SP5 Dell was killed in a three helicopter accident. He was working as door gunner when two helicopters collided, the resulting explosion brought down a third helicopter in the vicinity. SP5 Dell was one of 19 Americans and 16 Thai soldiers to die in the incident. The 20-year-old’s body was returned to the United States and buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
