George Edward Dehner

George Edward Dehner of Alton was a 1967 graduate of Spalding High School in Granville. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on January 29, 1968 and arrived in Vietnam in July of the same year. PFC Dehner had only been in Vietnam for about three months when he died. He was killed by fragmentation wounds he suffered to his entire body while on a combat operation in Quang Nam Province. A funeral service and burial for the 19-year-old took place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and Cemetery in Alton.
