Biography:
Gerald Lee Feltner was born in Los Angeles, CA and later moved to Carroll with family. He graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in the class of 1962 and enlisted in the Navy shortly after as a hospital corpsman with the 1st Marine Division. In the early morning of October 30, 1965, Danang Air Base came under attack. He was killed instantly by a mortar shell in his medical tent, and was recorded as the first Vietnam casualty of Carroll County. A funeral service was held at the Navy Base chapel and burial took place at Memphis Memory Gardens, both located in Memphis, TN. He left behind a young wife and unborn child.
