Biography:
Gregory Mac Coons grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1967. He was a straight A student and track star. After attending South Dakota State University for a year, he enlisted in the Army and started his tour in Vietnam in September 1969 with the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry. He was killed during operations in Binh Dinh Province on February 15, 1970. Sergeant Coons was buried in the Onawa Cemetery in Onawa, Iowa.
