Biography:
Harlan Ray Brandts of Sheldon graduated from Sheldon High School. He then attended the University of South Dakota for two years and Westmar College for one year. PFC Brandts died from wounds he suffered while engaged in a firefight against hostile forces near Gia Dinh. He had only been in Vietnam for about a month. A funeral service was held at the First Reformed Church and his body was buried at East Lawn Cemetery, both located in Sheldon. PFC Brandts was the first casualty of the Vietnam War from Sheldon.
