Biography:
Harold Peter Berg grew up on a farm near Rock Rapids and attended school at Central Lyon. He loved working on fast cars and enjoyed life. After school he joined the Iowa Air National Guard 185th Tactical Fighter Group based in Sioux City. He arrived in Vietnam May 1968 when the 185th was deployed to support the Air Force 37th Field Maintenance Squadron. His death on March 17th, 1969, was the result of a fall from a trailer being towed by a tractor. At the time of his death he was based in Binh Dinh Province and was scheduled to return to Iowa in less than two months. SGT Berg was buried in Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
