Biography:
James Rial was born in Barnum in Webster County. He joined the Navy in October 1943 at age 17 and served on the USS <i>Kishwaukee</i>. He made the Navy his career, advancing to Chief of Damage Control based at Naval Support base Saigon in 1964. DCC Rial responsibilities included monitoring fire and damage control in the Brown Water Navy. He died October 22 from non-hostile circumstances related to intentional homicide. Chief Rial was married and was buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.
