Biography:
James Dale Camp graduated from Winterset High School with the class of 1965, and attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City before being drafted by the Army in November 1967. Camp trained as an infantryman and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He deployed to South Vietnam in October 1968 with the 25th Infantry Division. SSGT Camp died three months later on February 4, 1969 from wounds inflicted during an enemy attack at night in the Hau Nghia Province. A funeral was held for 21-year-old Iowan at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, and his body was buried at the Union Cemetery in the adjacent Clarke County.
