Biography:
James Edward Green grew up in Waterloo and graduated from East High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1963. SGT Green was married in 1965 before deploying to Southeast Asia. While on a search and destroy mission during Operation Desoto in SGT Green was killed on March 30, 1967 at the age of 22. The Marines were moving to their night position south of An Diem, when they engaged a concealed VC force. The skirmish resulted in five casualties including SGT Green. Green’s remains were laid to rest at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
