Biography:
James McClain grew up on farm near Harris in northwest Iowa. He graduated in 1965 from Harris-Lake Park schools and worked for the Service Supply Company until he was drafted into the Army in July 1966. After arriving in Vietnam in November, he served in the 21st General Support Company providing logistical support to troops in the field. His death on June 12, 1967 near Phan Thiet was reported as an “accidental self-inflicted injury”. He was promoted to corporal after his death. CPL McClain was buried with military honors in Union Cemetery in Harris.
