Biography:
James “Jim” Wayne Herrick, Jr. served in the United States Air Force along with four of his brothers. A graduate of Iowa State University (ROTC), he volunteered for overseas duty and was sent to Southeast Asia in May 1969. On October 27, 1969, Herrick was flying a Douglas A-1 "SkyRaider" on a reconnaissance mission when his plane went down in Laos. Herrick’s remains were never recovered from the crash site.
