Biography:
Jerry Cutting grew up in the Davenport area. He joined the Army after high school and became a mortar squad leader with the 4th Battalion, 503 Infantry, part of the 173 Airborne Brigade. Based in Quang Ngai Province, the unit saw heavy fighting in 1969. Arriving in Vietnam in July 27, 1969, Sergeant Cutting was killed January 23, 1971 while on patrol when a booby trap exploded. He was buried in Rock Island National Cemetery.
