Biography:
Joe Billy McNett was born and raised in Arcola, MS. Later in life he moved with his mother to Burlington. He lived in Iowa for three years before joining the military. In Burlington he attended high school and worked for the Campbell Chain Company. McNett enlisted into the Army in March 1970 and was sent to Vietnam in July of the same year. He served as an infantryman with the Americal Division. SP4 McNett was killed on November 11, 1970 while on a patrol in the Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. A booby trap denoted along the trail and mortally wounded SP4 McNett. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. His body was returned to the United States and buried at the Stoneville-Leland Cemetery in Mississippi.
