Biography:
John Edward Manson died on May 3, 1968 while serving in the U.S. Army. His father lived in Des Moines and his official home town of record was listed as Des Moines, IA. Manson’s mother, wife, and two children were living in Gary, IN when Manson was killed in action. He was drafted into the Army and later deployed to Southeast Asia in February 1968. PFC Manson was serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, in the 1st Cavalry Division. He was killed by wounds sustained during a firefight with the enemy in the Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. Manson was 21 years old at the time of his death. His remains were returned to the United States and buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Gary, IN.
