Biography:
John Holger Wrisberg III was born in Mount Pleasant and grew up in Clear Lake. His father died in 1960 during a test flight for the Air Force in York, PA. He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School in the class of 1965 before attending Mason City Junior College for one year. Wrisberg entered the Army in 1966 and completed training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Campbell, KY. Later he completed Army medical school at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Wrisberg was assigned to the 101st Airborne and went to paratrooper school in Fort Benning, GA and drilled with cadets at West Point, NY. SP4 Wrisberg was trained in the Vietnamese language and deployed to Southeast Asia in December 1967 as a medical non-commissioned officer. On January 16, 1968 SP4 Wrisberg was killed by enemy fire while aiding a wounded soldier outside of Saigon. Initially listed as missing in action, his body was eventually returned to Iowa and buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery. He was 20 years old at the time of his.
