Biography:
John Larry Lockwood grew up in rural Garden Grove in Decatur County. He joined the Army and trained as a construction worker. Lockwood was sent to South Vietnam in April 1966. Ten months into his tour he was killed. On February 7, 1967 SP4 Lockwood, and five other Americans, were killed when an enemy detonated a grenade in a rock quarry in the Tay Ninh Province. Lockwood was 21 years old at the time of his death. His body was laid to rest at the Leon Cemetery in Decatur County.
