Biography:
Joseph Anthony Maag Jr. was born on February 6, 1948 and grew up in Le Claire, IA. He was drafted into the Army and soon after became an infantryman. He was attached to Company C, 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Brigade in the Americal Division out of Schofield Barracks, HI. PFC Maag left for Vietnam in April 1968. Less than two weeks later he was hit by hostile sniper fire in the Quang Ngai Province. He was admitted to the 2d Surgical Hospital (MASH) on April 29, 1968 where he later died. Joseph A. Maag was buried at Glendale Cemetery in Le Claire. Maag was 20 years old at the time of his death.
