Biography:
Kendal Robert Kruse was a conscientious young man who volunteered his time including playing taps for Memorial Day services and sought to be the best at his job. After graduation from Glenwood High School in 1965, he worked for time before enlisting in the Army in April 1966. His high test scores resulted in being trained as electronic technician at the Army Signal School where he was designated “Soldier of the Month”. He arrived in Vietnam October 20, 1967 where he served as a tactical wire operations specialist with the 6th Artillery. While traveling near Pleiku on March 29, 1968 a grenade in the jeep accidently detonated, destroying the vehicle and killing all four passengers. SGT Kruse was the recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He is buried in Mineola Cemetery in rural Mills County.
