Biography:
Kenneth Carl Baxter grew up in a family of fifteen children in the Council Bluffs area. After high school he joined the Marine Corps and arrived in Vietnam as a rifleman with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines on April 5, 1968. Almost immediately he was thrust into combat during the Battle of Dai Do just south of the DMZ. The savage fighting that lasted six weeks was to stop a NVA offensive. LCPL Baxter was killed by enemy rocket fire on May 1st. He was buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
