Biography:
Kenneth Dale Hammel graduated from the University of Iowa Dental College in the class of 1969. While in school he participated in the Boy Scouts, a member of the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, and a member of the Iowa State Dental Society. Dr. Hammel joined the Army and served in the 494th Dental Detachment. He was sent to South Vietnam in June 1970 and was stationed in the Bien Hoa Province. Captain Hammel died on July 24, 1970 in a non-hostile Jeep accident. He was 27 years old and married at the time of his death. His body was buried at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
