Biography:
Kenneth Maynard Baldwin was raised in rural Grafton and graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in the class of 1967 and joined the Marine Corps following graduation. After training he was sent to Vietnam on December 29, 1967 and landed in Danang. PFC Baldwin was serving with an artillery unit with the 1st Marine Division. On August 18, 1968 PFC Baldwin’s unit was attacked by enemy forces north of Danang. He was killed by fragmentation wounds and a gunshot wound to the head, 17 other American servicemen were killed during the incident including fellow Iowan PFC Schwarz. A funeral service was held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and his body was buried at the Grafton Cemetery. He was 19 years old at the time of his death.
