Kermit C Peterson Jr

Des Moines native Kermit C. Peterson Jr. died on August 14, 1968. Peterson was drafted by the Army and sent to Southeast Asia in February 1968. He served as an artilleryman with the 199th Infantry. On August 8, 1968, while firing a mortar, a charge ignited and injured PFC Peterson. He died a week later while in a military hospital in Japan. He was 20 years old at the time of his death. The young Iowan’s body was laid to rest at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
