Biography:
Larry Gene Lamphier graduated Waterloo East High School and was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale. He joined the Marine Corps in August 1967, and received training at Camp Pendleton, CA. PFC Lamphier arrived in Vietnam in October 1968 and served as an infantryman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Division. He was killed within two months in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam by a hostile gunshot wound to the head. He was 19 years old at the time of his death, and his remains were buried at Strawberry Point Cemetery in Evansdale.
