Biography:
Larry Budde was raised near Bellevue and then Preston in Jackson County. After graduating from high school, he worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad before enlisting in the Army. His tour is Vietnam started on April 29, 1968 with the 2nd Battalion, 35th Field Artillery. He was a cannon fire direction specialist at Fire Base Support Husky in Long Khanh Province. In an intense, coordinated enemy effort to overrun the camp on May 18th, several howitzers were destroyed and 14 Americans were killed and 40 more were wounded before the attack was repulsed. SP5 Budde was killed by mortar fire. His remains were buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Preston.
