Biography:
Larry Paul Blackman was from Denison, IA. He enlisted in the Army in 1964 at 18 years old and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After further medic training, he began his tour in South Vietnam in November 1966. He served as a Medical Specialist in the 25th Infantry Division and earned the rank of Specialist 4. On Ferbuary 17, 1967, SP4 Blackman was killed while his night ambush patrol unit was struck by friendly fire after being mistaken for a hostile force. The incident took place in Hau Nghia Province, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old. SP4 Blackman’s body was buried at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.
