Biography:
Lauren “Bud” Ray Everett was born and raised in Wadena. As a young man he enlisted in the Navy and trained to become a pilot. When he was sent to Southeast Asia, CMDR Everett was stationed on the aircraft carrier, the USS <i>Enterprise</i>, in the Gulf of Tonkin. On October 17, 1971 CMDR Everett and his copilot flew their aircraft on a training flight when it crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin. Both men died in the crash. A funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Church in Wadena, and his body was buried at Wadena Cemetery. He left behind a wife and three children.
