Biography:
Lawrence Klaahsen was born in George in 1947 and moved with his family to Sibley in 1953. After completing high school, he worked in his father’s gas station and the local cement factory. After enlisting in the Army, he was attached to the 35th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division as a radio operator. SP4 Klaahsen was killed in an ambush in the Binh Dinh Province. His death on March 1, 1968 was just 40 days short of him completing his tour. He was buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa.
