Biography:
Lawrence (Larry) Michael Dart was born in Boulder City, NV before moving to the southwest side of Chicago. Dart played first base for the Morgan Park High School baseball team. He enjoyed music and played the clarinet, saxophone, guitar and banjo. Dart attended Drake Law School in Des Moines and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. While living in Iowa he enjoyed hunting and was described as an outdoorsman. After graduating Drake University in the class of 1967, Dart was drafted by the U.S. Army. He arrived in South Vietnam in June 1969. SP4 Dart was awarded the Silver Star on October 25, 1969 when he evacuated several wounded men from a burning armored vehicle that had struck by an anti-tank mine. Only a week later, on October 31, SP4 Dart was wounded from an explosive device and died on November 7 from his injuries. His body was buried at Mount Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago. He was 24 years old at the time of his death and left behind a wife he had married in 1967.
