Leland Dale Zahn

Leland Dale Zahn was born in Hartley and grew up on a farm in Harris in Osceola County. He graduated from Harris High School in 1946 and worked on the family farm. In 1951 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served a three year tour in Korea. After a break for farming, he re-enlisted in 1963 in the Marines, spent a year in civilian life before enlisting again in July 1965 with a request to deploy to Vietnam. He served with the 3rd Battalion, 12thMarines. Staff Sergeant Zahn was killed April 5th by hostile fire in Thua Thien Province. He was buried in Union Memorial Cemetery in Harris.
