Biography:
Appanoose County native Lloyd Wesley Jones grew up in the rural town of Mystic. He was drafted by the Army and sent to Vietnam in March 1968. He served as an infantryman in the 101st Airborne Division. SP4 Jones was killed one year into his tour on April 18, 1969 during a combat operation in the Thua Thien Province. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Air Medal. The 27-year-old’s body was buried at the Elgin Cemetery in Mystic.
