Biography:
Loren Steven Reeves grew up in Des Moines. He attended Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and was a 1964 graduate of the Des Moines Technical High School. As a young man he participated in the Boy Scouts, was a member of his high school wrestling team, and attended Galilee Baptist Church. Before entering the service he worked as an electrician’s apprentice with the Blermann’s Electrical Company and was a member of the Electric Workers Union Local 347. Reeves was drafted by the Army in October 1965 and was sent to Vietnam the following June. In Vietnam he served with the 1st Aviation Battalion as a helicopter repairman and later as a helicopter gunner. On November 11, 1966 SP4 Reeves’ helicopter was engaging the enemy in support of ground forces. The chopper was hit by small arms fire and crashed near the Cambodian border. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. SP4 Reeves’ body was buried at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
