Biography:
Lyle Ervin Rohlfsen spent his childhood in Eldora and graduated from Eldora High School in the class of 1966. He was drafted by the Army shortly after graduation. Rohlfsen completed his military trainings in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Bullis, TX, and Fort Sam Houston, TX. He specialized in medical training and served as a medic in Vietnam. After a short leave back to Iowa, PFC Rohlfsen started a 12 month tour in January 1967 with the 25th Infantry Division. On the night of June 16, 1967 his unit was attacked by an enemy force, PFC Rohlfsen and 11 other Americans were killed in the engagement. The 20-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Eldora City Cemetery.
