Biography:
Lyle Preston Bills grew up in the Council Bluffs area. After graduating from high school he joined the Marine Corps. He arrived in Vietnam on February 19, 1968 and served with the 3rd Battalion, 27th Marines as a tank crewman. His unit took part in the intense fighting south of Danang near Go Noi Island which resulted in the loss of 61 Marines over a week’s time. PFC Bills was killed by rifle fire. He was buried in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
