Biography:
Manzelle Alan Ford was educated at Mount Pleasant Community High School and graduated in the class of 1966. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in the fall after graduating and was sent to South Vietnam in October 1967. Ford served on a M50 Ontos, a tracked vehicle equipped with six 106 mm cannons. PFC Ford was killed on February 7, 1968 when his Marine convoy was attacked on Route 547 in the Thua Thien Province. The 20-year-old Marine sustained multiple fatal fragmentation wounds during the engagement. Ford’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Columbus City Cemetery in Louisa County.
