Biography:
Mark Leo English was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Regis Catholic High School in the class of 1964. He worked for the Collins Radio Company before being drafted into the Army. After his training SP4 English was sent to Vietnam in the summer of 1966 and served with the 1st Infantry Divsion. That December he was injured by an enemy grenade and evacuated to a hospital. SP4 English recovered from his injuries and was killed within days of returning to combat. On December 18, 1966 his unit engaged the enemy and SP4 English sustained a gunshot wound to the head. His body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Calvary Cemetery in Ryan. He was 20 years old at the time of his death and he left behind a young wife.
