Marvin Allen Luerkens

Marvin Allen Luerkens of Central City attended the Central City community school district. He also attended College Community School near Cedar Rapids before entering the Army in June 1970. PFC Luerkens began his tour in Vietnam in December of the same year. He was killed about two months into his tour when his unit encountered a hostile force near Long Khanh. A graveside service with full military rites was held at Cedar Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids. The 19-year-old was posthumously promoted to corporal.
