Biography:
Marvin E. Park grew up on a farm near Bedford in Taylor County. After graduating from Bedford High School, he attended Universal Trade School in Council Bluffs. He was inducted into the Army in November 1967 and trained for heavy artillery. Park arrived in Vietnam in November 1968 and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 77th Artillery at Landing Zone Grant in Tay Ninh Province. He was recently promoted as section chief. On May 12th the enemy penetrated the perimeter at LZ Grant causing death and extensive damage. Specialist 4th Class Park was hit by mortar fire while seeking help for a wounded comrade. He died before he could be transported out. He was married with a daughter. His remains were returned to Iowa and buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.
