Biography:
Michael Douglas Schultz of Sanborn was drafted into the Army and began his tour in Vietnam on September 28, 1966. PFC Schultz was killed on March 23, 1967 by small arms fire from a hostile force during a combat operation near Binh Dinh Province. Prior to his death he was scheduled to be released from the service in September and was to be married when he returned home. A funeral service was held at Sanborn Funeral Home and his body was buried at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn. PFC Schultz was the first casualty of the Vietnam War from O’Brien County.
