Biography:
Michael Duane Hahn grew up in Davenport. After graduating, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He trained as a machine gunner and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines when he arrived in Vietnam in January 1968. His unit was part of the Mameluke Thrust, an operation that attempted to dislodge an enemy buildup in “Happy Valley” west of Da Nang in mid-1968. The 2nd Battalion lost 13 Marines in an intense battle on August 18 including Hahn. Private First Class Hahn was buried in Davenport Memorial Park.
