Biography:
Michael G. Rindone grew up in a Council Bluffs neighborhood. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967 and became part of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, known as the “Walking Dead” because of their high casualty rate. On June 20th he was fire team leader conducting a sweep and destroy operation in Quang Tri Province when he was hit by mortar shrapnel. Private First Class Rindone was evacuated to the hospital ship U.S.S. <i>Sanctuary</i> where he killed from his injuries. He was buried in Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
