Biography:
Michael Kaye Wonderlich grew up in the Ollie area in Keokuk County. He entered the Army from Moline. After Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, he began his tour in Vietnam in 1968 with the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, the “Wolfhounds” unit. On September 19th, he led a platoon into “Dodge City” in Hua Nghia Province. First Lieutenant Wonderlich was killed by hostile fire while moving to another hamlet to continue the patrol. He was married. Michael Wonderlich was buried in Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie, Iowa.
