Biography:
Newton Morgan Gray Jr. of Leon was killed on May 20, 1968. He was serving with Company A, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry in the Americal Division. The 21-year-old Iowan was killed, along with eight other Americans, when an enemy mine detonated while on patrol northeast of Quang Ngai City, South Vietnam. CPL Gray’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni.
