Biography:
Paul F. Widtfeldt Junior was born in Detroit but grew up in the Council Bluffs area. After high school he entered the Army as a conscious objector and trained as a medic. His tour in Vietnam began February 7, 1966 with HHC 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry. On October 8th, while on an operation near Bao Trai in Han Nghia Province, his platoon was ambushed. Eleven members were killed and one taken as a prisoner. Specialist Fourth Class Widtfeldt was found dead trying to protect the soldier he had been treating. He was buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
