Biography:
Randall Lawrence Brockway graduated from the Mediapolis High School north of Burlington. After high school he worked for the US Gypsum and Iowa Army Ammunition plant. Brockway was drafted by the Army in October 1967. SP4 Brockway was sent to Vietnam in March 1968 and served with the 25th Infantry Division as a radio operator. He was less than one month away from finishing his tour when he was killed in South Vietnam. He was fatally wounded during a firefight while in a defense position. He was posthumously awarded two Bronze Stars and promoted to Sergeant. The 24-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington. He left behind a wife and an infant daughter.
