Biography:
Raymond Knight grew up in the Council Bluffs area as part of a large family. He entered the Army in 1966 and trained as a combat engineer. On arrival in Vietnam, he was assigned to the 4th Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry. He was killed on September 8, 1966 by hostile small arms fire while clearing an area with land mines. The incident occurred near Suoi Da in Tay Ninh Province. Specialist Fifth Class Knight had just returned from R & R in Hawaii where he met his wife and new child. He was buried in Resurrection Cemetery in South San Gabriel California.
